They are widely used in the home and are quick and easy to use. To put the compression fitting together, you simply slide the nut onto the pipe and add the compression ring. Then slide the pipe into the fitting and tighten the nut to have a watertight seal as the nut compresses against the pipe.

They can be used to connect both plastic and copper and are preferred by some installers as they have a high tolerance to pressure vibration and vacuum conditions, so they lend themselves well to more industrial applications.
